A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE ON PLANTING: The Douglas Fir is a majestic forest giant. If you choose to plant it in the ground, please be mindful of its future. In ideal Australian conditions (characterised by high rainfall, fertile soil, and distinct seasons), it has the potential to reach heights of 80-100 metres over its lifetime. It must be planted in a large field or acreage well away from buildings, as its powerful roots will seek water sources.

Care and Planting Guide

A premium Douglas Fir rewards a little expert care with incredible beauty, especially when managing heat stress and needle retention.

Handling & Transport: This species can be sensitive to heat stress during transport. Upon arrival or after getting it home, give it a good, deep watering and let it rest in a cool, shaded spot for a day before bringing it inside.

Minimising Needle Drop: The key is constant hydration. The soil must be kept consistently moist. If the needles begin to yellow or drop, it is almost always a sign of thirst. Place the tree in a cool room away from heat sources and check the water daily.

Planting After Christmas: As noted in the description, this tree becomes a true giant. If planting in the ground, choose a location with ample space (a large field or property) away from any structures. It thrives in well-draining soil with good rainfall. Otherwise, it is an excellent candidate for potting-on into larger containers each year.

Interstate Courier Shipping (300mm Pot Only) Our popular 300mm potted trees can be shipped to all states and territories across Australia.

Shipping to Biosecurity States (WA, TAS, NT) Shipping our living trees to these states is a complex process that requires adherence to strict quarantine laws. We have two pathways to achieve this, depending on stock availability from our network of certified growers.

If we can source your tree from a certified partner nursery, the process is streamlined, though state government inspection fees may still apply.
If we need to ship from our own stock, the tree will require a special third-party treatment and certification process, which incurs significant additional costs.

Therefore, we ask all customers in WA, TAS, and NT to please contact us before placing your order.

This allows us to confirm the best and most cost-effective shipping pathway available for you, provide an accurate quote for any additional costs, and ensure a smooth and compliant delivery of your beautiful tree.

Local Delivery (430mm Pot) The larger 430mm trees are available for our dedicated local delivery service across Greater Sydney, the Southern Highlands, and surrounding areas. Please use the postcode checker at the top of the page for an accurate price.

HQ Pickup (Mittagong, NSW) All sizes can be collected from our off-site HQ in the centre of Mittagong.
