Detailed Description and Specs

The Korean Fir (Abies koreana) is a true gem of the conifer world, native to the high mountain altitudes of South Korea. Its most famous characteristic is its prolific production of striking, violet-purple cones that stand upright on the branches, creating a stunning natural display long before you add any decorations.

The foliage is equally beautiful, with soft, deep green needles that have distinctive silvery-white undersides, giving the tree a shimmering, two-toned effect. Its growth habit is naturally neat and conical, lending itself perfectly to a sophisticated, minimalist aesthetic. It is this combination of unique cones and perfect form that has made it a favourite in design-conscious homes across Europe and North America.

Care and Planting Guide

An Important Note on Care: This is Not a Novice Tree.

The Korean Fir is the most sensitive of all the Christmas tree species we grow. Its high-altitude origins mean it has very specific requirements, and it will not tolerate neglect.

Root Health is Critical: This species is highly susceptible to root rot and damping off. It must be planted in a specialised, exceptionally free-draining potting mix. Standard potting mixes will hold too much water and are not suitable.

Climate Sensitivity: It is very sensitive to hot and dry conditions. It requires a position with protection from the harsh afternoon sun and must never be allowed to dry out completely. It thrives in regions with cooler summers.

Post-Christmas Care: We receive many reports of these trees dying a few months after Christmas. This is almost always due to incorrect watering or soil. To be successful, you must be a diligent and attentive gardener.

Shipping and Delivery

Due to its size and sensitive nature, shipping this tree is a complex and expensive process.

Local Delivery & HQ Pickup This tree is available for our dedicated local delivery service and for pickup from our HQ in Mittagong. Please use the postcode checker at the top of the page for a delivery price.

Shipping to Biosecurity States (TAS, NT) Shipping this tree to Tasmania and the Northern Territory requires our full Plant Concierge Service, as it is less likely to be available from our certified supplier network. This process involves sending the tree to our Queensland facility for treatment and inspection on set dates. This incurs significant additional costs. Please contact us before placing your order for a detailed quote.

A Note for WA Customers: Due to the large size of this tree, it exceeds the maximum parcel dimensions for Australia Post Express Post. This is the only approved pathway for our concierge service to ship to WA. Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to ship the Korean Fir to Western Australia.
