Detailed Description and Specs
The Norway Spruce (Picea abies) is one of the most important and widespread conifers in Europe, cherished for both its timber and its role as the traditional Christmas tree in countless town squares and homes. Its widespread nature is a testament to its incredible resilience, growing across a vast range of soil types, climates, and conditions.
This adaptability is what makes it such a star performer in Australia. It has proven to be perfectly suited to the variable conditions of our southeastern states. As an expert grower, I’ve personally seen our specimens put on close to a metre of growth in a single year when conditions are right. It establishes quickly and grows into a handsome, conical tree that brings a touch of classic European elegance to any garden or festive display.
Here’s why we think you’ll love the Norway Spruce Potted Christmas Tree:
- Species: Picea abies (Norway Spruce)
- Growth Rate: Fast
- Foliage: Rich green, short, stiff needles
- Form: Classic conical shape
- Hardiness: Excellent for SE Australian conditions
Care and Planting Guide
The Norway Spruce is a famously hardy tree, but a little care will ensure it performs at its absolute best, both as a Christmas tree and in the garden.
During Christmas: Like all living trees, it requires a bright, cool position away from direct heat and a consistently moist (but not waterlogged) soil. Its hardiness makes it more forgiving than other spruce varieties, but regular watering is key.
Planting After Christmas: This tree wants to grow! If planting in the ground, give it a sunny position with well-draining soil. Be prepared for its rapid growth rate. It will establish quickly and requires minimal care once settled, but will reward you for good watering in its first few summers. It’s an excellent choice for a fast-growing screen or feature tree on larger properties.

Shipping and Delivery
Local Delivery & HQ Pickup (All Sizes) Both the 300mm and 430mm sizes are available for our dedicated local delivery service (across Greater Sydney, Southern Highlands, etc.) and for pickup from our HQ in Mittagong. Please use the postcode checker for a delivery price.
Interstate Shipping to Biosecurity States (WA, TAS, NT) Shipping our living trees to these states is a complex process that requires adherence to strict quarantine laws. We have two pathways to achieve this, depending on stock availability from our network of certified growers.
- If we can source your tree from a certified partner nursery, the process is streamlined, though state government inspection fees may still apply.
- If we need to ship from our own stock, the tree will require a special third-party treatment and certification process, which incurs significant additional costs.
Therefore, we ask all customers in WA, TAS, and NT to please contact us before placing your order.
This allows us to confirm the best and most cost-effective shipping pathway available for you, provide an accurate quote for any additional costs, and ensure a smooth and compliant delivery.
