Athrotaxis is a genus of ancient southern hemisphere conifers endemic to Tasmania, persisting as relict Gondwana species in high-altitude cool-temperate rainforest. Among the slowest-growing conifers in cultivation, they are prized by collectors for their fine, dense foliage, natural rarity and the particular reward of close attention over many years of slow, deliberate growth.
