She-Oaks — the genera Allocasuarina, Casuarina and Gymnostoma — are an ancient and ecologically important group of Australian native trees, characterised by fine jointed branchlets, wind-pollinated flowers and distinctive seed cones. Despite their common name, they are unrelated to true oaks; their form and sound in the wind are among the most distinctively Australian in the native flora. Several species are critical habitat trees for the endangered cockatoo species.
