The Stand That Makes a Real Tree Easy

Most of what goes wrong with a real Christmas tree goes wrong at the base: a stand that will not grip, a tree that leans by Boxing Day, a reservoir so small it is dry by breakfast. The Cinco Classic C-148 is the stand we use ourselves. Four metal bolts clamp the trunk, steel spikes stop it shifting, and a low, wide 6.6-litre reservoir holds more than a day’s drinking, with a spill guard so filling it is not a job for a torch and a towel. It fits every fresh-cut tree we sell, from 5ft to 10ft.

Fits every tree we sell: Monterey Pine and Douglas Fir from 5ft to 10ft and the 5ft Blue Spruce, on trunks up to 15cm
A 6.6 litre reservoir, low and wide, with a spill guard, so a morning check is enough once the tree settles
Metal screw bolts and steel spikes, not plastic thumbscrews, so the tree is held and stays held
Comes on the van with your tree, waits with it at Mittagong HQ, or goes by courier on its own

FOR REAL TREES UP TO 10FT (3M), TRUNKS TO 15CM*
*Fits every fresh-cut tree we sell, 5ft to 10ft. Sixteen stands this season. One stand per tree.

A real tree is only as steady as the thing it is standing in. The Cinco Classic C-148 is the medium stand from Cinco, the American maker whose stands many real-tree sellers in Australia use, and it is the one we fit trees into on our own setup visits. The body is one piece of high-impact polypropylene with a wide 51cm footprint, so there is nothing to assemble and nothing to work loose. Four heavy metal screw bolts wind in to clamp the trunk from the sides, and steel spikes in the base stop the trunk turning or creeping once it is tightened. Set up properly, the tree stays where you put it.

The part you will notice every day is the reservoir. It holds 6.6 litres, which is more than a fresh tree drinks in its first day, and it is low and wide rather than deep and narrow, so you fill it from a jug without lying on the floor, and the spill guard stops an overfill from ending up on the carpet. That matters more than it sounds: when a real tree goes brown early in an Australian December, a stand that ran dry and let the trunk seal over is a common cause. A reservoir this size, checked each morning, takes that risk off the table.

One stand covers every fresh-cut tree we sell: the Monterey Pine and Douglas Fir from 5ft to 10ft, and the 5ft Colorado Blue Spruce. The bolts wind right into the centre, so a slim 5ft trunk is held as firmly as a 10ft one. Order the stand with your tree, and it comes on the van or waits with your tree at our Mittagong HQ. If you are outside our delivery corridors and buying a tree elsewhere, buy the stand on its own, and we will courier it to you.

  • One Stand, Every Tree We Sell: Monterey Pine and Douglas Fir from 5ft to 10ft, and the 5ft Blue Spruce, on trunks up to 15cm across. The bolts close to the centre, so slim trunks are held too.
  • More Than a Day's Water: A 6.6 litre reservoir, low and wide, with a spill guard. Fill from a jug without getting under the tree, then check it each morning.
  • Held, and Kept Held: Four metal screw bolts clamp the trunk, and steel spikes in the base stop it from shifting. No plastic thumbscrews to strip.
  • Arrives With the Tree: Add it to your tree order, and it is on the van, or at Mittagong HQ with your tree. On its own, it goes by courier.

Which of your trees does it fit?
All of them. The Monterey Pine and the Douglas Fir from 5ft to 10ft, and the 5ft Colorado Blue Spruce. The maker rates it for real trees up to 10ft (3m) with a trunk up to 15cm across, and the bolts wind in to the centre, so a slim trunk is held as well as a thick one.
I am buying a 10ft tree. Will it hold it?
Yes. 10ft is the top of its rating, so it is the right stand for our tallest trees. A 10ft tree is heavy and awkward to hold upright, so set it up with two people: one to steady the tree while the other tightens the bolts. If you have added our Setup Service, we tighten it and you steady it.
How much water does it hold, and how often do I fill it?
6.6 litres. A fresh tree can drink 3 to 4 litres in its first day and a litre or more a day after that, so the reservoir covers you overnight from the start. Check it morning and evening for the first week, then each morning. Never let the water drop below the base of the trunk; if it does, the trunk seals and the tree starts to dry even once the water is back.
How do I set the tree in it?
Make the fresh 2 to 3cm cut off the base of the trunk, stand the trunk on the spikes in the centre, and wind the four bolts in evenly, a few turns each in turn, until the tree is held firm. Step back and check it is straight from two directions, adjust, then fill the reservoir. Two people make it easy; one person can manage a 5ft or 6ft tree. If you have added our Setup Service, we do all of this.
Can I buy the stand on its own?
Yes. If you are outside our delivery corridors, or you have a tree from somewhere else, order the stand alone and we courier it anywhere in Australia. It fits any real tree up to 10ft with a trunk up to 15cm across.
Does it come with the tree, or separately?
With the tree. Add it to the same order, and it travels on the van with your tree, or waits with it at our Mittagong HQ if you are collecting. There is no second delivery and no extra delivery charge for the stand on a tree order.
Will it mark the floor, and does it spill?
The base is flat moulded plastic with no feet or metal on the floor, and the reservoir has a spill guard around the rim. A real tree still drips a little when you fill it and sheds a few needles, so put a tree mat, an old sheet or a drop sheet under the stand.
Is it the same stand we bought from you before?
No. The stands we sold in earlier years were a different Cinco model with plastic screws, and each one suited a set tree height, so you chose a stand to match your tree. The Classic C-148 has metal screw bolts and steel spikes, and one stand fits every tree we sell up to 10ft.
How many do you have?
Sixteen this season, and we will not be restocking before Christmas. When they are gone, the page will say so.

Detailed Description and Specs

The Cinco Classic C-148 is the medium stand in Cinco’s Classic range, made in the USA by the American maker whose stands many real-tree sellers in Australia use. It is the stand we fit trees into on our own setup visits, and the one we recommend when a customer asks what to buy. We have sixteen this season.

The body is a single moulding of high-impact polypropylene, green, 51cm across and 21cm high, with a wide footprint that puts the tree’s weight low and spread. There is nothing to assemble. The trunk sits on steel spikes in the centre of the base and is clamped from the sides by four heavy metal screw bolts, so the tree is held in two ways: pinned at the bottom and gripped around the trunk. The bolts take a trunk up to 15cm across and wind right into the centre, so one stand covers every tree we sell, from a 5ft tree up to 10ft.

The reservoir holds 6.6 litres and is shaped low and wide rather than deep, so you can fill it from a jug standing up, and the spill guard around the rim catches an overfill. The base has pre-drilled holes so the stand can be screwed to a board or a plinth, which is how shops and halls use it; at home you will not need to.

Care and Planting Guide

Ten minutes at the start gets the tree straight and drinking. Two people make it easy; one person can manage a 5ft or 6ft tree alone.

  • The Fresh Cut First: Within an hour of the tree arriving, take a straight slice of 2 to 3cm off the base of the trunk. A cut trunk seals over with resin within hours and cannot drink; the fresh cut reopens it. Cut straight, not at an angle, so the trunk sits flat on the spikes.
  • Back the Bolts Out: Wind the four bolts out until the opening is wider than the trunk. Stand the stand where the tree is going, on a tree mat or drop sheet, before the tree goes in; a full stand with a tree in it does not move easily.
  • Trunk Onto the Spikes: With the netting still on, lower the trunk into the centre of the stand so the base sits on the spikes. Push down so the spikes bite.
  • Tighten Evenly: Wind the bolts in a few turns each in turn, working around the stand, so the trunk stays centred. Keep going until the tree is held firm and does not rock when you push the trunk. Do not tighten one bolt all the way first; that pushes the tree off centre.
  • Check It Straight: Step back and look from two sides of the room. Loosen a bolt a turn and tighten the opposite one to correct a lean, then re-check. Cut the netting off only once the tree is straight; the branches drop over the next few hours.
  • Fill It: Fill the reservoir with plain tap water to the spill guard. No sugar, aspirin or additives. A fresh tree can take 3 to 4 litres in its first 24 hours, so check it morning and evening for the first week and each morning after that. Never let the water fall below the base of the trunk.
  • Taking It Down: Bail or siphon the reservoir before you loosen the bolts, lay the tree down on a sheet and carry it out trunk first. Rinse the stand and dry it before you put it away; it will do many Christmases.

Once the tree is up, our Ultimate Christmas Tree Care Guide covers position, decorating and reading the tree.

Shipping and Delivery

With a fresh-cut tree
Add the stand to the same order as your tree. If you have booked home delivery, it comes on the van with the tree, and there is no separate delivery charge for it. If you are collecting, it is waiting with your tree at our Mittagong HQ. One stand per tree; order two trees and two stands if you need them.

On its own, by courier
If you are outside our delivery corridors, or you have a tree from elsewhere, order the stand alone, and it goes by courier to any address in Australia, packed in a carton. The courier price is shown at checkout for your postcode. Allow for the courier’s transit time before your tree arrives.

Collection from our Mittagong HQ
Our HQ is an off-site collection point in Mittagong, a few minutes from the Hume Highway on- and off-ramps. It is not a farm. A stand with a tree is collected with the tree in the window you choose at checkout; a stand on its own can be collected the same way.

With our Setup Service
If you have added setup to a delivered tree, we fit the tree into this stand on the spot, tighten it, check it’s straight and take the netting off. Nothing changes except that you no longer need to find a stand first.
